Where to go in August |
Many countries have a pleasant climate (mild temperatures, low rainfall or dry weather) in August. Some countries are to be avoided due to unfavorable weather conditions (high or low temperatures, heavy rainfall or cyclones which often cause heavy damage).
| Africa |
|
Rainfall is very low or nonexistent (dry season) in the countries and the islands (Madagascar, Mauritius, Mayotte, Reunion) located south of the Equator in August. Temperatures are higher in the central African countries than in the countries located in the south of the African continent. The rains fall in the south of Chad, in the south of Sudan and in the mountains located in the center of Ethiopia. The North African countries (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt) have a warm and dry climate in August (temperatures are higher in the desert areas than on the coasts). The island of Madeira and the Canary Islands (located in the Atlantic Ocean) have a milder climate. The climate is hot and rainy on the coasts of West African countries (rainfall is lower far away from the sea).
| America |
|
The North American countries (Canada, United States, Bermuda, Mexico) have a warm climate in August (it is cooler in Greenland and Saint Pierre and Miquelon). Rainfall are higher in the south and in the east than in the west of North America. The climate is hot and humid in Central America (temperatures range between 28 and 30° ; rainfall is high). The climate is similar in the countries located near the Equator (Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana). Temperatures are lower (20 to 25°) in the center of the South American continent. The climate is much colder in the south of Argentina and Chile. The Caribbean islands have a hot and rainy climate in August (temperatures reach 30° and rainfall are abundant).
| Asia |
|
The climate is hot between Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Iran in August (temperatures range between 30 and 40°, the sun shines constantly and rainfall is nonexistent). Humidity is often very high on the coasts of the Middle East countries. Most Central Asian countries have a hot and dry climate (temperatures often exceed 30° and rainfall is rare). Rainfall is very high in southeastern Asia (India, Cambodia, Burma, Bangladesh, Laos, Thailand) except in Malaysia and on the islands located in the south of Indonesia (dry season).
| Europe |
|
Temperatures exceed 30° and rainfall is low in August in the countries (Albania, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Croatia) and the islands (Corsica, Sardinia, Malta) of southern Europe (sunshine is very high in all these countries and territories). Temperatures are milder in western and eastern Europe (they are higher in France, Germany, Poland and Romania than on the British Isles and in Ireland). Northern Europe (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania) has a mild climate (rainfall is moderate and temperatures reach 20°).
| Oceania |
|
New Zealand and southern Australia have a cool climate in August (temperatures are higher in northern Australia). The islands located south of the Equator have a mild and relatively dry climate (temperatures range from 26 to 30°). The climate of the islands located north of the Equator is warmer and more humid (temperatures reach 30° and rainfall is abundant). Cyclones (heavy rain, strong winds) sometimes pass through the Marshall Islands, Micronesia and the Northern Marianas in August.
